Tax Deduction Account Number or Tax Collection Account Number is a 10 -digit alpha-numeric number issued by the Income-tax Department. TAN is to be obtained by all persons who are responsible for deducting tax at source (TDS) or who are required to collect tax at source (TCS). The alphanumeric number is allotted by the Income Tax (IT) Department under Section 203A of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

Application Procedure:-

To apply for TAN online, you can visit the website https://www.tin-nsdl.com/.

Acknowledgement:-

Once you apply for TAN, you’d see an acknowledgement screen, which will include:

  • 14-digit unique Acknowledgement Number
  • Status of application
  • Name of applicant
  • Contact Details
  • Payment Details
  • Space for signature (You will need to sign within each box, provided within the acknowledgement.)

Submit Documents:-

After successful submission of online application, you would need to send documents showing your proof of identity and proof of residence over to the NDSL-TAN Application division.

Payment:-

The fee for TAN application is Rs. 65, and the fee for TAN data correction is Rs. 63. You can make the payment via demand draft, cheque, credit card, debit card or net banking.
